The History of ME
Massive Events was formed in the summer of 2007. In August we announced our very first event - a heroes convention, named "Eclipse". We had an amazing response to this event after it hit the forums, and once we had the ball rolling it was only a matter of time before we announced more! "Lockdown" was our second event announced shortly after Eclipse. Both were promoted at the London Film & Comic Con in September 2007 where the first ME posters and flyers could be seen around Earls Court.
In 2008 we ran five events altogether. The first was, of course, Eclipse - selling out with 800 attendees and amazing guest line up (six guests from the series including Sendhil Ramamurthy, Christine Rose, Jessalyn Gilsig, Santiago Cabrera, Noah Gray-Cabey and David Anders). It was a huge, fun and amazing first event and we announced we would be running our second Heroes event in November after it's success. Lockdown was a quieter event due to writers strike issues, but we bounced back with "Chevron 7" in June, our fantastic first Stargate event. Also launched in 2008 was the first of many "Hub" events to celebrate the hit UK sci-fi series Torchwood. Building on our first events we went into 2009 with two Chevrons, two Hubs, and another Eclipse lined up.
Of course 2009 was the year of Twilight! In August of 2008 with the release of Stephenie Meyer's book Breaking Dawn and the upcoming movie, the hype was intense. Enter: Eternal Twilight! The first of our Twilight events was announced in Autumn 2008 and by the time the event rolled around in February it was our second ever sold out event! I'm sure most would agree in saying that it was one of the loudest events too! Having announced Eternal Twilight 2 for October the ticket sales went insane! The queue on the Sunday morning at ET1 is one of the largest I have seen. ET2 holds our record for fastest selling event - every ticket was gone within two weeks of going on sale! In the spirit of trying new things and brining some new Twilight guests to the UK, we also planned for the "Twilight Proms" event to go ahead in September, a "road trip" event taking place in London on the Friday and Saturday, then Birmingham on the Saturday and Sunday. These two mini-cons proved to be just as fun and exciting, although perhaps a little tiring for our crew on the move!
Twilight was not our only new venture in 2009. With 11 events in total that year we managed to branch out and run events for Harry Potter, Red Dwarf and a special Halloween event to celebrate Joss Whedon's series. Going in 2010 we have other new shows lined up for events and we're not afraid to take a chance on bringing new guests over to the UK! We hope you've enjoyed the journey so far and keep coming back because it's you, the fans, that keep us going and help us to make these events a success!!!
All guests at events will appear subject to work commitments. Website designed & maintained by SJ.
